Installation Process

Paving materials for your outdoor design needs including interlocking, concrete, and flagstone pavers. They all have a process that if not followed could have some consequences. For instance, not running the proper grade or cheating on the compaction or thickness of the base could make a difference in your final outcome.

Before the paver installation process begins, we locate all utilities (electric, gas, water, etc.) to prevent any problems during installation.

  1. Demolition then takes place to remove your existing hard surface through the use of a Bobcat machine, or by hand where machinery won't fit, demolition tools, and saw-cutting where necessary.
  2. Pavers come in a variety of colors and patterns, giving the design-conscious homeowner. After, doing your demolition cleaning up and then excavating, finding your proper grade is essential to creating necessary water flow away from your home) and sub-base compacting using a plate compactor to remove air gaps. Then prepare the base with six inches of Road Base for vehicular areas and four inches for the pedestrian areas.
  3. Once the base is set, it’s hosed down and compacted until a compaction level of 95% is reached. Sand preparation then takes place with ¾ to an inch of bedding sand laid down over the base. Then the field of pavers gets laid followed by the border stone of your choice placed around the outside of the field
  4. After all the pavers have been laid, a plate compactor is used to compact all the pavers down into the bedding sand.
  5. Sand is then brought up 1/4 inch on the stone, interlocking the stones. Additional sand is brought in to compact from the top down to completely fill all the paver joints.
  6. Once the joints have been completely filled with the sand, all excess sand and debris will be removed with a brush and the pavers hosed off.

Sealant is optional (recommended) to prevent weeds or any other growth from occurring between the pavers.
